Event Evolution
2020 – 19 teams registered. Regional qualification played in Europe. Final Round played with 16 teams divided into four groups according to ranking and ballot draw. Qualification matches introduced. Winners of qualification matches play in top 8 at next WFC, losers play in lower 8. Top nine placed teams receive direct qualification to next WFC. Final round played over 5 days.
2018 – 18 teams registered. Qualification held for the first time in Europe. Final Round played with 16 teams divided into A- & B-divisions, each with 8 teams in two groups. Loser of A-division relegated to B-division. Winner of B-division promoted to A-division. Played over 5 days.
2016 – 15 teams divided into A- & B-divisions. A-division with 8 teams in two groups. B-division with 7 teams in two groups. Loser of A-division relegated to B-division. Winner of B-division promoted to A-division. Played over 5 days. First time played outside of Europe.
2014 – 13 teams divided into A- & B-divisions. A-division with 8 teams in two groups. B-division with 5 teams in one group. Loser of A-division relegated to B-division. Winner of B-division promoted to A-division. Played over 5 days
2012 – 13 teams divided into A- & B-divisions. A-division with 8 teams in two groups. B-division with 5 teams in one group. Loser of A-division relegated to B-division. Winner of B-division promoted to A-division. Played over 5 days
2010 – 12 teams divided into A- & B-divisions. A-division with 8 teams in two groups. B-division with 4 teams in one group. Loser of A-division relegated to B-division. Winner of B-division promoted to A-division. Played over 5 days
2008 – 11 teams divided into A- & B-divisions. A-division with 8 teams in two groups. B-division with 3 teams in one group. Loser of A-division relegated to B-division. Winner of B-division promoted to A-division. Played over 5 days
