The WFC 2024 Event Disciplinary Function (EDF) has given a one match suspension to Lukas Joaquin Garcia Haugen from Team Norway. The suspension is in connection to an incident in the play-off match against Denmark on Wednesday 11th December 2024.
The incident under review happened at 36:40, and was not penalised by the referees. The incident was reported to the EDF by the IFF Referee Coach of the match for further review.
In making their decision, the EDF reviewed the match video and statements from the referees, Referee Coach, and match Jury. It was the opinion of the EDF that the action of Lukas Joaquin Garcia Haugen (direct contact with his should to the head of his opponent) should have been penalised with a match penalty, according to the Rules of the Game 614:3 When a player is guilty of violent physical play. According to the Rules of the Game 2022, 613:2 Match penalty shall lead to suspension for the rest of the match and from the following match in the same competition and possible further punishment according to the conditions and routines set by the administrating authority.
Garcia Haugen chose not to submit a letter of defence, and the final decision of the EDF was to penalise Lukas Joaquin Garcia Haugen with the equivalent of a match penalty, which means a one match suspension from the next game in the event. No further sanction was deemed necessary.
This means that Lukas Joaquin Garcia Haugen is ineligible for inclusion in Team Norway’s next game in the Men’s WFC 2024, which is the quarterfinal against Finland on Friday 13th December 2024.
