The Ukrainian Women’s Floorball Championship has officially resumed after a two-season break. The championship was originally halted back in February 2022 due to the war which displaced many players and disrupted daily life for all who took part.
Over the past two years, players kept active by joining mixed teams in the Men’s First League or competing in junior championships, while others continued their floorball careers abroad. The Women’s and Women’s U19 National Teams were the only campaigns that remained active throughout this challenging period.
On 30th November 2024, the championship restarted in Lviv with seven teams competing in a 3v3 format. The participating teams included Kyiv Floorball Club, Skala Melitopol, Yantar (Novoyavorivsk), Alliance (Ternopil), Solva (Mukachevo), Sky (Rivne) and Alfa (Uzhhorod). Kyiv Floorball Club took the lead in the league after three victories and one draw. The games were exciting and competitive, providing a strong start to the season and highlighting the potential for women’s floorball to grow again in Ukraine.
Women’s Committee of the Ukrainian Floorball Federation
The event also offered a platform for the newly established Women’s Committee of the Ukrainian Floorball Federation to promote the sport and connect with teams. Several clubs are now exploring the 3v3 format as an accessible way to boost participation in women’s floorball.
The UFF Women’s Committee is a standing Committee mandated by the federation statutes to promote the development of girls’ and women’s floorball. Its key goals include relaunching the Women’s Championship, fostering leadership through education, mentorship programs, and conferences, and increasing participation in coaching and refereeing. The Committee is also there to encourage member clubs to prioritize development of girls and women’s Floorball.
The committee members represent diverse clubs and roles:
• Snizhana Dubyk – Coach of floorball club Yantar and a player for the Ukrainian women’s national team, with experience playing in Switzerland and Sweden.
• Anastasia Konopnytska – Player for floorball club Alliance and the Ukrainian women’s U19 national team.
• Angela Fokina – Founder of NGO United by Sport, member of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, and Vice President of the Kyiv Students’ Football Association.
• Diana Yaroshevych – Coach of floorball club Sky and a former player for the Ukrainian women’s national team.
Although the restart of the Women’s championship may seem like a small step, it marks an important milestone. It’s a sign of progress for Ukrainian floorball and a step forward in rebuilding women’s competitions after a very difficult period.
