The visual identity and theme of the World Floorball Championships (WFC), which will be held in Finland in consecutive years 2026 and 2027, were unveiled on Friday October 18th in connection of the Euro Floorball (EFT) in Turku, Finland.
It is very rare that the same country is responsible for organising the adults World Floorball Championships two years in a row. The men’s WFC will take place in Tampere in early December 2026, followed by the women´s WFC in Turku at the same time the following year.
The visual identity and core message of these events have been completed just over two years before the start of the first event. The launch took place today at the Kupittaa Sports Hall in Turku, where the EFT 2024 for Men and U19 Men started.
Due to the consecutive nature of the WFC´s, the organiser opted for a unified identity. The values underlying both tournaments are the same.
– Since equality was agreed upon as the starting point for the planning of the events, a unified theme but individual logos were created for both WFC´s. The aim is to strongly link the tournaments to the Finnish Floorball Federation’s equality program, which seeks to break boundaries in a broad sense. This is exactly what the slogan of the WFC´s, “Free of Limits” represents, says Hanne Nyrönen, Event Manager at the Finnish Floorball Federation.
The idea of breaking boundaries also references the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many sport events, including the men’s World Floorball Championship 2020, had to be postponed due to the global outbreak. The Men’s WFC was held at the end of 2021 in Helsinki, still overshadowed by the pandemic.
– Hopefully this time we can organise the events on a grand scale and without restrictions. The host cities, Tampere and Turku, are strengthening their collaboration as the project progresses and are closely involved in our shared championship journey, Nyrönen notes.
The WFC logo emphasises a connection to nature. The visual identity and the story behind it are the work of Juha Ollikainen, the Visual Producer at the Finnish Floorball Federation.
– The logo combines several elements. A tree grows from the earth, reaching towards the sky. Each branch represents an individual, and together the branches form a large, celebrating crowd. The logo resonates well with the slogan of WFC´s and conveys a sense of freedom, Ollikainen summarises the message and continues, The shared logo for WFC 2026&2027 is simple and timeless. For the men’s tournament, a bold outline version of the logo will be used, while the women’s tournament will feature a colourful and rich version. Visually, the tree ”grows” as the championships progress
What about the colour scheme?
– The colour palette consists of subdued and nature-inspired tones. The colours work well together to create a calm, fresh, and valuable atmosphere. Shades of brown and blue come from beach, sand, varying water depths, and the sky, with a touch of green from leaves.
– With the unique situation of two adult World Floorball Championships being hosted by the same entity in back-to-back years we are very pleased with the unified look and feel of the event branding yet with individual logos for both events, states John Liljelund, IFF Secretary General.
Finland and Helsinki have previously hosted the Men’s World Floorball Championships three times, in 2002, 2010, and 2021. The first-ever Women’s Floorball World Championships in 1997 was held in Åland and the 2015 WFC were contested in Tampere. Turku hosted the U19 Men’s World Floorball Championships in 2009.
