Men’s AOFC Cup 2023 in Singapore continues with the semi-finals and placement matches.
Group stage was completed yesterday. Thailand were the winners in Group A and Singapore in Group B. Singapore are participating in the event with two teams and their other team (Singapore B) finished second in Group A. Korea have been playing a strong event and they secured the second place in Group B.
This meant that New Zealand and Malaysia (third and fourth in Group A) and Malaysia B and Philippines (third and fourth in Group B) continued to the play-offs. In the first match, two teams from Malaysia battled it out for the spot in the 5th place game. Especially #73 Han Keong Chong from Malaysia A has played well and continued his successful tournament in this match. Malaysia A won against Malaysia B 9-2.
In the second play-off match, New Zealand met Philippines. Philippines have played in the tournament without their Sweden based players like Melvin Alm Mendoza and Kim Varga. The game against New Zealand was also tough. Short blackout occurred in the middle of the second period and teams had to find their focus again during the break.
