Floorball Champions Cup 2024 began with the first round of Northern Conference quarter-finals. The second round will be played on the weekend of 26th—27th of August.

 

Women’s Champions Cup results

Pixbo IBK v TPS

Pixbo and TPS met on Saturday at Wallenstam Arena. Pixbo had already started their season be being victorious at the Czech Floorball Open in Prague and they continued their strong start to the season also at their home arena. Klara Loneberg started the scoring for the “Foxes”. When Emma Stenberg scored on powerplay and Eliska Krupnova added one more, it was already 3-0 for Pixbo after 12 minutes. But TPS did not give up. Henrika Maikola succeeded on powerplay and Laura Rantanen took the Finnish champions one goal closer, just before the first period was over. But second period was then nominated by the Swedish team who scored seven goals and took a clear 10-3 lead. Loneberg and Stenberg finished their hat-tricks in the final period and although TPS got few more goals, there was no uncertainty of the winners: final score 13-6 for Pixbo. Pixbo’s Emma Stenberg was the player of the match and top scorer of the match with four goals and two assists. TPS captain Jenna Saario scored two and assisted another two goals and was chosen the player of the match from the Finnish side.

Classic v Thorengruppen IBK

The Swedish champions Thorengruppen IBK travelled to Lempäälä, Finland to face Classic in their first game. Emelie Wibron and Oona Kauppi started the scoring for Thorengruppen. Only two goals in the first period were promising for a tight match but that changed when the second 20-minute started. Nellie Öhgren, Cajsa Alm, Jonna Stenvall and Sofia Joelsson scored and all of a sudden it was 6-0 for Thorengruppen. Classic took a timeout and got themselves back to the game but Thorengruppen managed to score a short-handed goal and add their lead. Finally, Classic succeeded when Veera Vilenius scored on power play. Suvi Hämäläinen scored two more for Classic in the last period but Thorengruppen had got too far and managed a 9-4 win against the hosts. Emelie Wibron (2+1) and Suvi Hämäläinen (2+0) were awarded the players of the match.

Men’s Champions Cup results

IBF Falun v TPS

The game between Falun and TPS stayed even until the second period. Although Falun started the scoring, TPS could equalise and they even went to a 3-2 lead in the second period when Jere Niemelä scored. But Falun got the upper hand when first August Bergkvist equalised and after Simon Berg, Rasmus Enström, Malte Lundmark and Emil Lundmark scored one goal each. One more goal from Alexander Galante Carlström and Falun were in a 8-3 lead in the second period. Falun continued scoring in the third period and left TPS without any chances of winning. Final score 12-5.

Classic v Storvreta

Classic hosted Storvreta at their Bläk Boks Arena in Lempäälä, Finland on Saturday. This is not the first time these teams meet at Champions Cup but of course now the format is different from the previous events. The game was intense all the way and stayed without goals until the second period. Classic striked first when Aaro Helin scored for the hosts. Helin has played in Chur Unihockey in Switzerland for the past two years and returned to Classic this summer. Storvreta and Filip Eriksson equalised just few minutes later and second period ended 1-1. Helin became the MVP of the match when he scored the winning goal for Classic after 50 minutes. Storvreta did not manage to equalise anymore and Classic won the first quarter-final.
