April 6th 2023 celebrates the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP).

April 6 was declared as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013, with the support of the International Olympic Committee, creating a historical link to the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

This day provides an annual opportunity for organisations and individuals to celebrate the power of sport to drive social change, community development, to encourage equity and inclusion and to foster peace and understanding between individuals, communities, and nations.

As a reference to the yellow and the red card in the sporting world, a #WhiteCard is a symbol, created by the organisation Peace and Sport, representing the positive power of sport for peace and social inclusion. Every year through the #WhiteCard campaign, Peace and Sport mobilizes the sports world as well as governments and civil society to celebrate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

The core message of the 2023 #WhiteCard campaign is 10 years united through the #WhiteCard. It seeks to give visibility to content related peace through sport and, as part of the 10th anniversary of the IDSDP, highlight best memories illustrating the ability of sport to contribute to peace.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

To participate, take a picture alone or in a group while holding a white card, or make a creative video, playing your favourite sport while holding a #WhiteCard, and post it on social networks using the #WhiteCard and the tag @peaceandsport.
