This year’s World Floorball Summit will provide attendees with the opportunity to enjoy floorball at the top international level and analyse matches together with professionals. Registration for the event is now open.

The World Floorball Summit (WFS) will once again bring the international floorball community together. This year’s event will take place in Eerikkilä in September. Having been organised as an online-only event last year, this edition of the World Floorball Summit will take place in connection with Eerikkilä Super Cup matches and the event will have a special focus on game analysis and development through knowledge-based coaching. The theme of the English-language seminar is Knowledge-based coaching and game analysis behind the development of floorball.

According to Research and Development Director Mikko Pohjola from Eerikkilä Sport & Outdoor Resort, the seminar will take advantage of the results of two recent analytical approaches: biomechanical analysis and game analysis:

— Biomechanical analysis and game analytics have not been developed as extensively anywhere else in the world. We will have the opportunity to make practical use of recent analyses in predicting and analysing the Super Cup matches. I am sure that this will provide many of the attendees with fresh perspectives and ideas about the game.

Biomechanical analysis of floorball describes the sport’s current state of development, assesses the levels of – and relationships between – the requirements of floorball, physical attributes and the overall load during the season, and presents recommendations for the practical implementation and monitoring of training, with an emphasis on in-season training. The biomechanical analysis of floorball was carried out by Eerikkilä’s physical coaching specialist Elisa Hakamäki, Testing Lab Director Marko Haverinen from Varala Sports Institute and student Jiri Kirsilä from the Faculty of Sport and Health Science at the University of Jyväskylä, together with an expert working group. The biomechanical analysis of floorball will be published in its entirety in autumn 2022. A summary of the key results is available here (in Finnish).

The game analysis of the F-liiga and international floorball was carried out by Postdoctoral Research Fellow Miikka Palvalin from Tampere University. He previously presented the results of the analysis at a floorball seminar held at Eerikkilä in May. More information on the game analysis is available here (in Finnish).

— The World Floorball Summit will provide excellent opportunities to find out more about knowledge-based learning and analytical approaches to floorball. The seminar will feature presentations on various ways to analyse matches and how to take advantage of analytical data to achieve improved game performance through training, says John Liljelund, Secretary General of the International Floorball Federation.
