USA will host the upcoming World Games this July in Birmingham, Alabama. Alexander McVey represented USA at TWG 2017 in Wroclaw but this time he will be playing for the host country and hopes to attract new fans to the sport.
Alexander McVey represented Team USA at the World Floorball Championships 2020 in Helsinki. It was his third time representing USA at the Men’s WFC. McVey also played at The World Games in 2017, when floorball was included as the official medal sport for the very first time. USA finished their TWG journey on 5th place.
McVey found floorball at a rather young age. The family background explains the active lifestyle very well:
—I started playing floorball when I was around six years old. I’m from a family who loves sports so when I was a kid I was playing both
floorball and soccer and ice hockey and tennis so when it came down to choosing a sport I just fell in love with floorball because of the high pace and yeah it’s just a fun sport.
And the floorball also includes some highlights. McVey and his club team, where he has played the most of his career in, advanced to a higher division. But there are also highlights from international floorball scene:
— Another highlight was being announced as team captain for the World Championships in 2021 or the floorball championships 2020
that was played in 2021 in Finland. It was just a great honor to be the team captain for team USA.
McVey has also experience from playing floorball in The World Games. Having the event in the US this time is definitely a big deal for players from other countries but it is very special for players representing the host country.
— The World Games is really important for floorball because I think a lot of people who is there for for the other sports will get to watch some floorball hopefully and we’ll enjoy it I believe that it’s a fast-paced sport that a lot of people like and I think we’ll get lots of new fans during The World Games.
