CUF Leganes won the Men’s title in Spain after a tight match against Floorball Escorial which was only decided on extra time. The finals were played in a Final Four format and over two days in El Escorial.

The first semi-final was played between Floorball Escorial and CDE Valle. Unfortunately, no spectators were allowed but both teams were looking forward to this encounter. Thanks to a live stream it was still possible to watch the games as a fan. It was a very tough game and either team was able to minimise the chance for the opponent. However, it was Floorball Escorial who had the better start into the game and was able to score the first two goals. CDE Valle’s first goal gave the team some hope back but it was answered with another four consecutive goals by Floorball Escorial. CDE Valle didn’t give up and was able to score the next two goals – to shorten the result to 6-4 for Floorball Escorial. In the end it was Floorball Escorial who took the win 8-4 and it was Escorial player Juan Bernardino who scored half of the goals of his team.

The second semi-final was between CUF Leganes and Fenix San Lorenzo. Both teams didn’t manage to score in the first period. During the second period it was CUF Leganes who scored the first two goals of the games and took the lead  to 2-0. Later on Fenix had a chance to score their first goal with a penalty shot but they missed it. It seemed that they didn’t recover from this and weren’t able to score any goal in this match. In the third period it was CUF Leganes whom continued to score and the game finally ended with a clear 5-0 for CUF Leganes.

Medal matches on Sunday

The final was played by the two first classified from the regular league and it was very open who will be the winner. What a dream start for Floorball Escorial who scored within the first minute. CUF Leganes wasn’t too shocked from this early goal and had their chances to score the first goal. Just before the end of the first period it was finally time to score their first goal and both teams went to the intermission with 1-1. Also in the second period it was a very tight and equal game with several chances on both sides. But it was only CUF Leganes who was able to score a goal in this period – even Floorball Escorial had their greatest chance with a penalty shot which they couldn’t convert.

With the third period starting both teams tried to enforce the decision with additional goals. Again it was CUF Leganes who scored and was leading now by two goals. Floorball Escorial never gave up and was able to score their second goal shortly after the last one from Leganes. And from here the excitement was rising again. Only 30 second before the end of the games it was Floorball Escorial who was able to tie the match 3-3. The final had to game into the extra time for both rather exhausted teams. Finally, it was CUF Leganes who was able to score the game winning goal and to secure the Spanish Championship title in 2020/2021.

The bronze match was a walk over CDE Valle and it was Fenix San Lorenzo who won the match 5-0. This results in the following final standings:

  1. CUF Leganes
  2. Floorball Escorial
  3. Fenix San Lorenzo
