Thorengruppen IBK are the new Swedish champions after winning the tight final against Pixbo Wallenstam 5-4 in Gavlehovshallen. Sofia Joelsson led her team to victory with four assists. Thorengruppen also secured a ticket to the Champions Cup 2022.
The Swedish Championship final in Gävle offered a tight match where the teams led in turns. Pixbo Wallenstam turned 0-1 to 3-1 in the second period, but then Thorengruppen took a 5-3 lead in the last period.
– It was a very intense match. We had a lot of shots against Pixbo’s goalkeeper Lara Heini, but she was really good. In the third period we continued and then it felt like Pixbo could not resist, says Sofia Joelsson in Swedish Floorball Federation’s news.
Joelsson, who returned late in the season after a long-term injury, was behind most goals for Thorengruppen. She assisted four out of five goals during the match, and her line accounted for all the goals.
– It worked extremely well today. Our line is a match made in heaven. Not only Veera and Oona Kauppi as forwards, but also the defenders Cornelia Fjellstedt and Ellinor Berling each scored a goal. They are completely magical, says Sofia Joelsson.
Pixbo Wallenstam reduced to 5-4 with just under a minute left of the third period, but the Thorengruppen held off and were able to win their first Swedish Championship gold of all time.
