In March 2021, a series of matches organised and managed by students and staffs from the Shanghai Foreign Language School (SFLS) were officially launched and nearly 200 players from seven different grades participated in the league.
SFLS is the first Chinese school to officially incorporate a floorball curriculum into its high school specialised sports programme.
– Since 2014, the floorball extracurricular courses for junior high students (from grade 6-9) has become popular due to its fun and safe nature. The advantage of floorball is also that it can be played by both boys and girls together. In July 2016, some of the SFLS players also took part in the international cultural exchange involving floorball culture in Sweden and Finland. The players attended a summer camp organised by Selected Player Sweden AB and visited certain schools and clubs in both Sweden and Finland, says Mr Yuan Yong, Vice President of China Floorball Union.
Further development steps were made and the SFLS flooball club was set up to involve the students’ education in sport management and social responsibility. Since then, the club have won several National Junior Floorball series Championships.
As part of the social welfare activities, a long-term cooperation programme was also set up involving schools for pupils with intellectual disability in Changning District. The SFLS members have participated in the floorball development of these special schools and played unified floorball regularly.
In 2018, the SFLS officially incorporated floorball curriculum into its high school specialised sports programme, which is the first time in China. Under the school’s well-founded floorball environment, several club members have been selected into the national U19 floorball team.
– In the future, SFLS will continue to improve their floorball development programme through international sports culture exchange and cooperation in floorball education, said Xue ShuaiRu, deputy head of the competition department of the Chinal Floorball Union, who is also sports teacher from SFLS.
