The board of Storvreta IBK has made the difficult decision to cancel the Storvretacupen 2020/2021. After consulting with the Swedish Public Health Agency, the Infection Control in the Uppsala Region, the County Administrative Board, the Police and Destination Uppsala, they have come to the conclusion that the cup cannot be carried out due to the risk of increased spread of infection.

– A difficult decision to make, but the health of participants and officials has been our biggest priority. We have take our responsibility and therefore cancel the cup based on the precarious situation we have with Covid 19, both nationally and internationally, says chairman Ingemar Lundqvist.

During the autumn, the management of Storvretacupen has planned for how the tournament would adapt matches, halls, accommodation and food service to be carried out in an safe manner. At present, with increased spread of infection both in Sweden and abroad, they made the decision to cancel the cup.

– We gather teams from all over Sweden and about 10 other countries, which could lead to both increased spread of infection and a higher burden on healthcare, especially considering the Christmas and New Year holidays when there normally is a high load already, says Lundqvist.

Given the stricter general guidelines they have in the region and the fact that the regional management has gone up in staff mode, they see no other options than to cancel Storvretacupen.

All registered teams will receive a refund of their registration fee.

Storvretacupen deeply regrets the cancellation of the cup and hopes for an understanding of their situation and that all players, leaders, referees, officials, cooperatives, sponsors and suppliers will be back in December – January 2021/2022.

– Storvreta IBK would like to thank all registered teams, cup workers, partners and sponsors for believing in us. Together we are strong and will get through this. Keep your distance, keep going and persevere, Lundqvist concludes.

Storvretacupen is planned as usual around Christmas and New Year 2021/2022.
