The Men’s World Floorball Championships will take place from November 5 to 13, 2022 at the new Swiss Life Arena in Zurich and the AXA Arena in Winterthur. The planning of the event has begun, with lots of colour, confidence and the event slogan “floorball unlimited”.
The Swiss Floorball Association is facing enormous challenges with the planning of a major sporting event of this kind under the current circumstances.
– We are dealing with the pandemic – or rather its consequences – on a daily basis and this influence both the planning as well as the implementation of activities, for example promotional measures, says Daniel Bareiss, President of Swiss Floorball.
– It is all the more important during this difficult time to create some colourful accents and to express our optimism that we look forward to celebrating a wonderful floorball festival in November 2022 in Switzerland.
Flashes of colour are part of the World Championship’s “look”.
– The dab of color is the characteristic element of the upcoming World Championships and symbolises floorball’s openness and diversity, declares Daniel Kasser, Managing Director of the World Championships 2022, explaining the conspicuous presentation:
– With its matching slogan ‘floorball unlimited’, we want to increase floorball’s popularity during the next two years and show that floorball truly has something to offer for everyone. It makes no difference if you are holding a floorball stick yourself or just following the progress of our national team.
Ambitious Goals and certain questions about the Swiss Life Arena
For Swiss Floorball, these World Floorball Championships played at a home venue is an important milestone on the road to anchoring floorball in Switzerland on a wider level as well as linking up to the successes they have had in recent years.
– The Women’s World Championships 2019 in Neuchatel showed that floorball can move and excite the entire Swiss population, says Daniel Bareiss.
The total of 45,000 spectators at that event even set a record for women’s floorball.
– We are aiming for 150,000 spectators in 2022. We will also have the perfect infrastructure with the new Swiss Life Arena in Zurich and the tried-and-tested AXA Arena in Winterthur.
It is as yet uncertain if matches can actually be played in the Swiss Life Arena. The opening of the home of the ZSC Lions is planned for August 2022, three months before the World Floorball Championships. The construction work is on schedule. Possible obstacles to the scheduled opening, aside from the closing of construction sites due to the Corona virus, could also be extremely low temperatures in the coming winter, which could cause problems with the concrete.
The best 16 nations will be playing for the world championships title from November 5th to 13th, 2022. Switzerland is ranked third, and is one of the top favourites together with the current world champion title holder Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic. The last time World Floorball Championships were held in Switzerland was in 2012, when the Men’s World Floorball Championships took place in Bern and Zurich.
