The floorball season in Switzerland started already on the 29th of August, when the Swiss Supercup was played. The Swiss top leagues are scheduled to start on the 12th of September. Marion Kaufmann, responsible for communication at the Swiss Floorball Association, gave insights on the new season in the Swiss top leagues.

Any changes in the preparation for the new season?

– The teams prepare in Switzerland and not in other countries. That is why, the new tournament took place like the “Mobiliar Trophy” in Winterthur with four men’s and women’s NLA teams. Otherwise, the situation does not really differ for the teams.

Winner favourites and major changes in the leagues?

– The same teams are in the NLA as last season, because we did not promote or relegate any teams. Only Mendrisiotto in the women’s NLA dissolved the team, that is why Floorball Riders was promoted from NLB to NLA and Nesslau Sharks was promoted from the 1st League to NLB, as they both won the qualification. The favourite among the women is Kloten-Dietlikon Jets. With Mirjam Hintermann and Brigitte Mischler, they signed two national team players (from Wizards). So they have now 10 national team players in the team! Piranha lost Seraina Ulber (quit) and Katrin Zwinggi and signed two new internationals: Nela Jirakova and Martina Repkova, who both play in the Czech national team. Also many young U19 players are in the Chur team, so the team is much younger than last season. Behind these two are the three teams from Berne, who want to challenge them.

– In the men’s NLA, Wiler-Ersigen and GC remain as the favourites, thus both lost important players. Wiler lost Matthias Hofbauer (quit), Deny Känzig and Nicola Bischofberger (both to Linköping IBK in Sweden) and GC lost Luca Graf (Zug United) and Michael Zürcher (quit). But both teams didn’t sign other players, instead they took young U21 players in the team. The best transfers where done by Floorball Köniz with Manuel Engel, Simon Jirebeck, Jyrki Holopainen and Martin Kisugite. They can challenge the two as well as Malans (with Tim Braillard).
