The floorball season ended early this year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and for many sport clubs this has led to financially tough times. During this extraordinary situation, many club teams have become creative in funding their future activities. Below you can find some great examples of ways to support your floorball club.
Season tickets and sofa supporter tickets
In many countries the clubs have started to sell the season cards for 2020/21. Some teams are also selling tickets to the final matches of this season and fans can show their support by buying tickets to the matches that are not played. In some cases, the fans can choose to not accept refund and donate the ticket price to the team.
Player jerseys and fan gear
Fans can also support the club by buying player jerseys and other fan gear. For example the Finnish clubs PSS and EräViikingit have sold their league teams’ jerseys online. The Men’s SSL team Storvreta IBK is currently selling their match shirts on eBay.
Turn unused material into something useful
Unused event material such as fan/volunteer shirts can also be turned into something else, more useful. The Final4 organisers in Germany have for example made face masks from unused T-shirts.
Supportive membership and fundraising campaigns
The floorball clubs can also offer its stakeholders to support them through paid membership, which can help the club to get past the difficult times. Many clubs have also started with campaigns through which they collect funds.
Giving back to the local community
And the other way around, sport clubs can also support their local community in several ways:
- Share and provide ideas of how to stay active at home
- Launch virtual events and floorball lessons
- Reach out to vulnerable and socially isolated individuals and help them with daily tasks
- Provide online education/activities
- Providing marketing channels to local businesses and launching joint campaigns
- Equipment support sent to those in need
