The regular season in the Men’s Salibandyliiga ended on 29th of February and the top four teams decided their quarter-final opponents on Tuesday 3rd of March.
The reigning Finnish champion and the Finnish Cup champion, Classic, won the regular season with 72 points. The team only lost two matches during the season. The second place went to Oilers, who got 56 points and is 16 points behind Classic. EräViikingit got the third place with 53 points and Nokian KrP fourth with 52 points. The final standings can be found from the table below.
For LASB, OLS and Tiikerit the season is over and they continue in the highest league next season as well. Welhot and Steelers are playing the play-down series. The matches are played with a best of five system and the loser will play against the loser from the Men’s 1st Division final. The Salibandyliiga rookie, ÅIF, is relegated to Men’s 1st Division. The team only won three matches during their first season in the highest league.
The players from Classic are also dominating the top scorer list. Sami Johansson has 75 points and he is followed by the team’s Ville Lastikka who has 66 points. Joona Rantala from Nokian KrP made it to top three with 65 points. Sami Koski (SPV) has the most assists, 41 in 26 matches.
The most interesting league matches in Finland have been the so-called “Espoo derby”. In December, almost 2 792 spectators witnessed the exciting game that Oilers won 7-6. The teams faced each other again on the 7th of February when Oilers won the match 5-4 after penalty shots.
The play-offs begin on Friday 6th of March and those are played with best of seven system.
