17 coaches from 11 different nations participated in a four day floorball seminar arranged by Special Olympics Middle East and North Africa (SO MENA) in Kairo, Egypt. The aim was to prepare for the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2021 in Sweden where floorball will be the sport with most athletes.

The concept is named Train The Trainer, and the participants will afterwards go back to their own countries to arrange local floorball seminars in order to promote and spread the sport. In the next month, there will be floorball seminars organised by Special Olympics in Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Marocco, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates.

The seminar in Egypt was conducted by Mr. Steen Houman who is both IFF Central Board Member and Chair of Special Olympics Floorball Sports Ressource Team.

– The seminar also gained some media attention when two TV stations were present to make interviews. In addition, there were several stories in different Arabic media outlets telling about the event. All participating nations where also excited about the floorball seminar, and will all start working with floorball to be included in their programmes, Mr. Houman informs.

The seminars are part of the preparations for Special Olympics World Winter Games in 2021 in Sweden, where 54 floorball teams from all continent will participate.
