CUF Leganes win Men’s EuroFloorball Challenge 2019.

After a rest day on Saturday, CUF Leganes was playing FBC Lemberg in the opening game of the final day at EFCh2019. Lemberg needed a win by at least two goals to win a ticket to EuroFloorball Cup 2020. Lemberg started strong and thanks to #20 Taras Melko, took the lead in the fourth minute. #21 Carlos Abad had a chance to get a goal back just before the end of first period but the ball hit the post. Six minutes after the start of second period #32 Sergio Pazos equalised and Leganes was again in the pole position. Two minutes later Lemberg’s captain #12 Marian Hrabovyk showed a true striker instinct and scored a backhanded goal to make it 2-1 for the Ukrainians. The scoreboard remain unchanged until the full-time whistle. The win to Lemberg put CUF Leganes, FBC Lemberg and UFC Utrecht all on equal points which meant just the goal differences of the matches between these three teams decided the final positions. Thanks to the best goal difference, CUF Leganes are the champions of EuroFloorball Challenege 2019.

The last game of the tournament was played between local team Les Dragons and Viking Roma, both of which were yet to win a game. The French team was eager to win in front of the home crowd at Palais des Sports but Roma started focused and took a two-goal advantage. This served as a wake-up call for Besancon who then scored 5 minutes before the end of the first period. There were no goals in the second period but a powerplay goal for Besancon at the very beginning of the third period turned the match. The host team took this momentum and scored another two to defeat Roma 4-2. Les Dragons’ #6 Hugo Botton scored a hat-trick, all assisted by team captain #10 Arthur Anderson, who also scored one of his own.

That finishes our week here in Besancon. A very enjoyable tournament for all of the teams and very well-organised one by the local volunteers. The IFF looks forward to being back in France again.
