The Finnish Men’s National Team won the 2018 World Floorball Championships in Prague and was awarded as the Team of the Year in the Finnish Sports Gala. The result was made public during YLE´s Live TV broadcast from the Sports Gala where all the most influential sports persons in Finland were present.

– This is a great honour for our team and for the whole sport, Finland’s captain Nico Salo said in his speech.

– In our team, we accept all players as they are and we could also share the hard things in life. That made our team connected and we could play freely when needed, even in tough situations.

– The development of the team was incredible, head coach Petteri Nykky concluded the road to WFC gold.

The sport journalists gave 206 votes for the WFC 2018 gold team, where as the Finnish Men’s football national team was placed second with 110 votes.

The great year of Finnish floorball was also recognised in other categories. Finland’s win in the WFC final was a nominee for the Sport highlight of 2018 and the head coach of the national team, Petteri Nykky was a nominee for the Coach of the Year.
