Easy victory again today for Switzerland and Latvia needed a full days work to take the points from Russia. The thriller of the day was the game between Iceland and Italy, which eventually ended to 3-2 victory for Iceland.
The first game of the day was Hungary against Switzerland. It was very clear from the very beginning of the game that the Swiss were the ones who determined the speed and the direction of the game. Manuel Engel from team Switzerland scored four goals in the first period and assisted two in the game. 21-0 for Switzerland.
Iceland started the game by dominating the ball, but one fast counter attack for Italy was enough to score the first for the Italians. Even though Iceland was trying very hard but they needed five more minutes and one power play to score the equalizer.
Second period was more or less coast to coast floorball while both teams had their chances to score. Italy had its moments in the end of the second period when they were awarded a power play, but Icelandic defense knew their job and no additional goals were seen in the second period.
Another power play for Italy in the third period and now they used the opportunity and scored the second goal at 47.02. Iceland also had their chance few minutes later with the power play and that also worked and ten minutes before the end of the game it was a draw again.
And again a power play for Italy, but this time Iceland was the one, which scored shorthanded and took 3-2 lead, which Iceland was able to maintain until the end of the game.
The last game of the day was the “local derby” between Russia and Latvia. Even though Russia started strong and score the first goal, they were still the underdogs in the game. After team Latvia equalized at 6.38 they were controlling the first period and had a 4-1 lead after the first period.
Second period was very equal and actually team Russia “won” the second period by scoring their second goal. In the last period both teams scored, but Latvia ended up to be the winner by 7-3.
