Sweden secured the top spot in group B of The World Games Floorball tournament with a 3-0 victory over Switzerland. In tomorrow’s semi-final Sweden will play against Czech Republic with Finland and Switzerland settling the other final spot.

Though goalless for more than the first half, the game between Sweden and Switzerland was anything but boring. Both teams entertained the audience with physical floorball and fast plays creating scoring opportunities at both ends. Especially the Swiss goalie Curdin Furrer was on fire keeping his net safe and his team in the game.

Nine minutes into the second period, Mattias Samuelsson strongly worked the ball into offensive zone and as the Swiss defence had to rush to cover Kasper Hedlund, Kim Nilsson was left alone in front of the net. Nilsson is not one to miss such opportunities and Sweden now had the lead. Right after that, Matthias Hofbauer had a great opening in the other end but his backhand shot only hit the post.

In a tight game like this the team that makes use of its scoring opportunities wins and as so many times before between these two, it was Sweden. In the third period, Johannes Larsson dribbled into position and scored elegantly on a rebound after the initial save by Curdin Furrer. The final result was settled by Kim Nilsson who lifted the ball in close off a perfectly-timed pass by Johannes Larsson.

Switzerland actually got one ball in but the final buzzer had just sounded and Sweden’s goalie Viktor Klintsten got to enjoy a well-earned shoutout.
