Petri Kettunen didn’t straight up promise to bring gold to Czech Republic in his coach interview (read it here). The Czech team will approach The World Games with a day-by-day, minute-by-minute attitude with a mixture of more experienced players and newcomers.
How did you decide on this roster?
It was logical to take two goalies and 12 field players. We need some flexibility from the players so there are some players who can play more than one position. The player’s history from the previous international matches and physical condition were also important factors, since the number of players is small.
What kind of a team do you have?
We have a good combination and mix of world class players and young newcomers.
If you would need to use only three words to describe the team, what would they be?
Hard work, commitment, unique.
What are your team’s strengths and weaknesses?
Strengths are team spirit, fast breaks and the all-in mentality. Since we just built the team and I have not trained together with them before this interview, I don’t want to get into the weaknesses.
Which three players people should watch and why?
Matej Jendrisak: World class player who is strong and is also a leader in the team.
Marek Benes: Newcomer who knows nice tricks and has good scoring ability.
Lukas Veltsmid: Flexible player with good ball control and offensive power.
