The Czechs and the Finns took strong victorious during the second day of U19 WFC 2017 A-Division. Latvia and Slovakia suffered tough one-goal-difference losses.

Switzerland – Latvia 6-5 (2-3, 4-1, 0-1)
Switzerland took a strong win yesterday, whereas Latvia suffered a big loss after playing good for two periods. The Swiss had a lightning start! With only nine seconds on the clock, they scored their first goal. A moment later Latvia evened the score. At the end of the first period Latvia got a 2-minute penalty which led to a shorthanded goal, but also to a powerplay goal. With only five seconds left of the first period, Latvia took a 3-2 lead. The second period was controlled by Switzerland as they turned the tables. After 40 minutes, they led the match 6-4. In the third period, Latvia were eagerly trying to even the score, but were only able to score one goal on powerplay.

Poland – Czech Republic 5-18 (1-5, 1-6, 3-7)
The first period was controlled by the Czechs. After 15 minutes, they were leading the match already 5-1. No more goals were seen in the first period. In the second period Poland suffered two penalties, which the Czechs were using efficiently. With 40 minutes on the clock, Czech Republic were leading the match 11-2. The Czechs had no trouble finding the net neither in the third period. Poland were also able to score three times. In the end, Czech Republic won the match 18-5.

Slovakia – Denmark 5-6 (0-0, 1-2, 4-4)
Slovakia and Denmark had an even first period. Despite the scoring chances, neither of the teams were able to score. The first goal was seen at 25:02 as Slovakia scored. Seven minutes later Denmark scored on powerplay and before the second period was over, Denmark were in a 2-1 lead. The third period was eventful. Denmark found their rhythm and scored three goals within four minutes. Slovakia decreased the score to 2-5, but Denmark scored another goal 11 seconds later. At the end of the third period, Slovakia’s shots were hot. They made three goals within four minutes, but it wasn’t enough to even the score. Denmark won the match 6-5.

Sweden – Finland 7-14 (1-2, 2-6, 4-6)
One of the most anticipated group matches, Sweden v Finland, gathered over 2000 spectators to VIDA arena. The fans were loud as Sweden took a 1-0 lead when nine minutes had been played. Finnish fans got to celebrate, when Finland took a 2-1 lead before the end of the first period. Finland were on fire during the second period. They scored four goals within two and a half minutes. The Swedes decreased the score to 3-6, but Finland scored another two goals before the end of the period. Even more goals were seen in the third period and in the end Finland won the match 14-7.
