EUR 4 was the second group to play today in Madrid in Spain for the Women’s WFCQ 2017. Hungary having its first game today against Czech Republic, who had a successful game against Spain yesterday. The second game of the group was the home team Spain playing against Latvia, which walked over newcomer Ukraine yesterday.

Frustration is probably the best word to describe the Czech team’s feelings during the first period and especially after Hungary scored the 1-1 goal at 12:31. It looked like nothing was working for the Czechs and the ball was definitely not bouncing for them. Hungary also had their moments and were able really to challenge the Czech team.

Slowly towards the end of the first period Czech Republic forced Hungarians to take more and more the defensive position and Czechs were finally able to proceed according to their game plan and start scoring the goals they had planned.

Second period secured the victory for the Czechs and the las period was more or less just trying to score as many as possible, 18-2 for the team Czech Republic.

Spain had a very good 30 minutes yesterday and were able to equally challenge the Czechs. Today there were much in stake if team Spain would still like to have the chance to qualify, either by winning against Latvia or then a least to lose with minimum goal difference.

First period ended without goals and that was more than perfect news for the Spanish, only two goals for Latvia in the second. Anything would have still been possible. The big question was, could the Spanish keep up other 20 minutes with the Latvian steam engine, which kept pushing hard.

Spain was throughout the whole game the team, which was forced to take the defensive role, but team Latvia was not able to break that Spanish defensive pattern. 3-0 victory for Latvia, which gives the strong four points on the way to try to secure the spot in the WFC Final Round in Bratislava December 2017, but not that bad for Spain either.
