The Finnish Cup finals were played in Tampere, Finland last weekend. EräViikingit won the Men’s final and TPS won the Women’s final. TPS will be seen in the Champions Cup 2017 in Seinäjoki, Finland.
In the Men’s Finnish Cup final the season favourites EräViikingit from Helsinki and Classic from Tampere battled for the win. EräViikingit were the first to score and lead the match 2-0 after the first 5 minutes of the match. Classic was able to decrease the score to 2-1 at the end of the period. Only one goal was seen in the second period. Classic’s Krister Savolainen scored from a penalty shot. The third period was full of action, but in the end the fusion club EräViikingit won the final 5-4.
In the Women’s Finnish Cup final league team TPS faced a first division team SSRA from Oulu. TPS as a league team was a favourite in the final and showed their strength already in the first period as they took a steady 3-1 lead. During the second period TPS increased their lead to 5-2. SSRA came to the third period with a new attitude. With seven minutes left on the clock, SSRA had already decreased the score to 5-4. Despite of SSRA’s final spurt, the numbers remained the same and TPS celebrated their first Finnish Cup victory and also got a ticket to the Champions Cup 2017.
