Olimpia Osowa took the second place of women’s group B by winning MFBC Grimma in the Friday morning game. The Polish team showed again what it means when the whole team defends well. Also the effectiveness in scoring chances was once again impressive. The victory assured that Olimpia will play tomorrow in the semi-finals against the winner of the game FBK Kometa-UHC Weissenfels.

Olimpia Osowa Gdansk-MFBC Grimma 6-2 (2-0, 3-1, 1-1)

Grimma possessed the ball more in the first period and got the game up to Olimpia’s side of the field well by some good game opening combinations. But in the last third of the field Grimma could not get inside the Polish side’s tight defense. There were only a few good scoring chances for Grimma in the first period and Olimpia made a few really dangerous counter attacks. They were also effective as Olimpia scored twice during the first 20 minutes. The goals were scored by Hanna Samson and Laura Lacka.

An unfortunate accident happened in the first period when the Polish team´s first line center Anna Szychta was bringing the ball up to Grimma’s side. After she shot she twisted her leg and was taken out of the field by paramedics who took her straight to the hospital nearby.

In the second period the Polish team could build up some longer and slower attacks. In the middle of the period Weronika Gradzka scored 3-0 on powerplay and Maja Stenka 4-0 shortly after that. Daniela Kolbe decreased the score but Marta Chudyszewicz added the lead to 5-1 right after that. Those were also the numbers when the players headed to the locker rooms for the second intermission.

The last period Grimma tried hard to score more goals to get closer to the opponent but the defense of the Polish team was like a rock. Charlotte Russel managed to score 5-2, but that was it, the Leipzig club couldn’t get any closer and Olimpia scored once more 14 seconds before the end and earned a four-goal-victory.
