SK Lielvarde and UHC Weissenfels played tonight against each other in the EFC 2016 tournament. The game was really tight and a very physical one also. Latvian champions were a tiny bit better and took the victory even though the host team made sure that they won´t give up no matter what.

SK Lielvarde-UHC Weissenfels 4-3 (2-1, 1-0, 1-2)

It was a shock start for UHC Weissenfels. In just 12 seconds Lielvarde had scored twice, first by Gints Klegers and then by Atis Blinds. It took a while before Weissenfels got into the game but when they did, they started creating better and better scoring chances from their long attacks. At 10:24 Max Blanke decreased the score to 2-1. Lielvarde on the other hand showed that they are always dangerous when you give them an opportunity to get a fast counter attack. Still, no more goals were seen in the first period which included a lot of physical contacts and high tempo.

The second period was as tight as the first one. The Latvian team tried to win one-on-one situations with their strength and shoot as soon as they had a chance and Weissenfels tried to possess the ball when they had the chance and also strike with faster attacks. Lielvarde was the stronger one of the teams at least statistically speaking because Ralfs Jonikans was the only one to score during the second 20 minutes. The time of the goal was 25:45.

In the third period Anssi Soini did 3-2 at 44:48 and shortly after that UHC Weissenfels had a powerplay. The powerplay wasn’t successful for the German team and as soon as it ended, Lielvarde scored once more. It was too much for the Germans because Thomas Händler was the only one to score a goal anymore and Lielvarde took the points with 4-3 victory.

Gints Kligers was the most effective player of the Latvian side by scoring two goals. From the UHC side no one scored more than one point.
