Start of the regular season in many countries is getting closer. Latvian floorball season will kick-off on Saturday, 17th of September with a 12-hour open air floorball marathon.
The new floorball season in Latvia will be opened this Saturday with a 12-hour open air floorball marathon at the Freedom Monument in Riga. The marathon will include Men’s ELVI Floorball League opening match between defending champions Lielvarde/Fatpipe and Triobet/Ulbroka.
The event is organised as a part of the European Week of Sport activities in Latvia. All day long, floorball players from Riga and Latvia’s regions will compete in a marathon match with teams changing every hour. Spectators will have a chance to see popular Latvian personalities on the floorball field as well as take part in various competitions and other interesting activities. The night will conclude with ELVI Floorball League opening match, which is scheduled to finish at midnight.
– It’s a unique project to play the highest level floorball outdoors and not just anywhere, but in the centre of our capital city. We have been working on this idea since June and now it’s coming true. NHL has Winter Classic, why can’t we have our own open air games? This will be another event that will help to raise floorball’s visibility in Latvia as the Men’s World Floorball Championships in Riga is less than three months away, says the President of Latvian Floorball Union Mr. Ilvis Petersons.
