One of the world’s biggest international camp for goalkeepers, BLINDSAVE Goalie Camp, was held in Cēsis, Latvia from July 8 to July 10.

For the fourth year in a row, floorball goalie equipment manufacturer BLINDSAVE organized BLINDSAVE Goalie Camp. A record breaking 92 goalies (67 men & 25 women) from 16 countries took part in the camp. The BLINDSAVE Goalie Camp has no age or skill restriction. At this year’s camp the youngest goalie was only 10 years old whereas the oldest goalie was 52.
– We are growing every year. Four years ago we started with 50 goalies mainly from Latvia but this year there was more than 90 goalies from all around the world, including such countries as Japan, USA and Singapore. Now we are the biggest goalie camp in the world. It’s amazing. Goalies are ready to travel thousands of kilometres just to take part in the camp and learn goaltending, says BLINDSAVE Goalie Camp organizer and Latvian national team goalie Andis Blinds.

During the camp, the participants got to practice with such professionals as SSL and Swedish national team goalie Patrik Åman and legendary Finnish goalie Henri Toivoniemi. As the goalie camp is growing, the coaching staff gets bigger. For the first time Pontus Boman (SWE) from “Malvaktfokus” and Aake Kettunen (FIN) from “Goalie Base” joined the staff. Both Boman and Kettunen are working as coaches in their home countries.

At the camp the goalies worked on improving their movement and positioning, they had video analysis, special physical training, yoga and other specific features. 52 shooters also participated in the camp and challenged the goalies every day. Blinds states that though learning is important, the goalies get much more from the camp:
– BLINDSAVE Goalie Camp isn’t just a place to learn something new but also a goalie community. I can see a lot of goalies who are continuing friendship after the camp and probably it is the most valuable thing what you can get here – new friends and new emotions.
