Energa Gdańsk won the women´s title for the sixth time and for Górale Nowy Targ this was the second time in a row that they won the Polish Championship title!

The Superfinal of the Polish Salming Extraleague took place on Saturday, May 14th 2016. Both Men’s and Women’s finals were extremely exciting and were only decided during overtime.

Women´s Superfinal

In the Women’s final Energa Gdańsk faced SUS Travel Jedynka Trzebiatów. The beginning of the game was even, but after a few minutes it was Jedynka who was able to score the first goal. The second goal for Jedynka was scored in the 27th minute and until this time neither of the teams were able to score during power plays. After 31 minutes Jedynka was leading 3-0 and no one could expect what was going to happen in the 3rd period.

Energa scored their first goal in the 47th minute and the next goal just five minutes later. The last eight minutes were tough for Jedynka Trzebiatów. They had to stop the attacks of Energa, but just 13 seconds before the end of the game they failed! After Hanna Samson’s shot from the middle of the rink the ball found the way to the net and the game went into overtime.

During overtime both teams played safely. In the 68th minute Julia Jurkowska made a shot almost from the centre line and Agata Kownacka in the goal didn’t see the ball, which bounced off the post into the net and gave the title to Energa Gdańsk!

Men´s Superfinal

The men’s final was an event to look forward to by every sport fan in Nowy Targ! The matches between the eternal rivals Szarotka Nowy Targ and Górale Nowy Targ are always much more exciting than other matches. There were more spectators than seats and the atmosphere was amazing.

The first period was beyond any doubt the most exciting one in the whole game. The second and the third periods were also very exciting, but during the first 20 minutes the teams didn’t pay too much attention to the tactics and the game was really spectator friendly. From the start of the second period the game was played much more in the middle of the rink. In the 39th minute Jakub Korczak from Górale was penalised with match penalty 3, but Szarotka wasn´t able to score any goal during their power play!

The regular time ended in a draw 3-3. During overtime, in 66:50, Górale’s player Karol Pelczarski got a two minutes penalty for incorrect hit and the situation for Szarotka seemed to be excellent! But power plays weren’t their strong point in this game. And in 68:37 Górale utilised an opportunity when Szarotka made a mistake. Patryk Wronka passed to Piotr Kostela who was one-on-one with the goalkeeper, he didn´t miss and it ws Górale that could celebrate the victory!

The Superfinals were played for the first time in Nowy Targ and I hope that the spectators were really satisfied with the level of the game. If we could, we should have given the titles to all the four team, they were brilliant. I am sure that the level of floorball in Poland is still growing, which makes us really satisfied.
