The former floorball player Camilla Granelid is the new coach of the Swedish U19 women´s national team. Now she wants to develop the team even further for the next Women´s U19 World Floorball Championships.
The Swedish Floorball Federation previously informed that Åsa Karlsson will not continue as the U19 women´s team head coach after the successful WFC in Canada where Sweden won the gold. Now it is time for another former star player, Camilla Granelid, to take over.
Granelid has a long career as a player, and in recent seasons she has featured as a leader in IBF Falun having different roles. Now she takes the next step to the national team.
– I think it´s great to get the trust to lead a national team. That´s the biggest thing that I have been involved in as a player. It feels like an honour, she said.
Was it obvious that you would accept?
– Both yes and no. The first thing I thought of was the season that I now have behind me where I was burned out and sick at the end. It was mostly why I hesitated, would I risk falling into the same situation again. But after talking with the Swedish Federation and my boss at work, it feels like there is no risk. It will just be fun.
Granelid was in Canada to follow the U19 women during the WFC and she liked what she saw:
– This was the start. It feels great to have this as a basis. You see the other countries and what the pace is. Sweden developed throughout the tournament and became better and better.
The national team camp in September will be the first national team camp for Granelid. Then she will take out an initial squad for the Euro Floorball Tour in November. After that it´s time for two matches against Finland in February. And the ultimate goal is the Women´s U19 World Floorball Championships in Switzerland 2018.
