The regular season is over both in the Men’s and Women’s top leagues in Poland. The Women’s play-offs start already this weekend and the Men’s play-offs start next week.
Men´s Salming Extraleague
The last two matches of Men’s Salming Extraleague were played last weekend. The regular season has ended without any significant surprises, even though there were some unpredictable scores during the season.
The winner of the regular season is Górale Nowy Targ, who gained as many points as MUKS Zielonka, but Górale won Zielonka both times they met, which gave Gorale the first place.
The third place belongs to Szarotka Nowy Targ, the most successful Polish club in history. They played extremely well in the last two matches against Górale and took two very important victories. However, they lost against Ósemka Wejherowo (4th) and Fenomen Babimost (5th). Both Ósemka and Fenomen qualified to the Extraliga last season.
– Before the season I assumed that this season may be very interesting and I was right. The last victories by Szarotka over Górale made the competition even more interesting, says Marcin Rudziński, Secretary General of the Polish Floorball Federation.
–I hope that the playoffs will also be very interesting. We can’t be sure who will gain the title until the last seconds of the games.
Pionier Tychy and Olimpia Łochów took the last two places with only 10 points. Their situation before the quarterfinals seems to be extremely tough with almost no chance to win.
Quarterfinals:
• MUKS Zielonka – Olimpia Łochów
• Szarotka Nowy Targ – Pionier Tychy
• Ósemka Wejherowo – Fenomen Babimost
Górale proceeds directly to the next round, because they won the regular season.
Two victories are needed to avance from the quarter-finals and semi-finals. The matches will be played 5-6 March and 19-20 March.
Women´s Salming Extraleague
Energa Olimpia Osowa Gdańsk took the first place in the Women’s Salming Extraleague, just 2 points ahead the current Champion, MMKS Podhale. Jedynka Trzebiatów who has only a 4 point advantage over PKS MOS Zbąszyń took the third place. Multi 75 Killers Kraków improved significantly due to some important transfers they made before the current season, and Szarotka Nowy Targ took the fifth and sixth places.
The last two places were taken by five-point-teams like Ambra Ożarów Mazowiecki and Junior Kębłowo. These two teams don´t have a big chance win in the quarter-finals.
– The competition in the Women’s Extraleague is also very interesting this year. We have five or six teams who played very well. In the play-offs the margin of error is very narrow. If you make too many mistakes, there is no second chance. I think that each winner of the quarters may be the Champion, Rudziński says.
Quarterfinals:
• Energa Gdańsk – Junior Kębłowo
• Podhale Nowy Targ – Ambra Ożarów Mazowiecki
• Jedynka Trzebiatów – Szarotka Nowy Targ
• PKS MOS Zbąszyń – Multi 75 Killers Kraków
Two victories are needed to avance from the quarter-finals and semi-finals. The matches will be played 27-28 February and 12-13 March.
The Super Final will be played May 14, 2016 in Nowy Targ.
