Team Sweden ended the 4th U19 WFC in celebration as they defeated Finland in the WFC Final with 6-4.

One of the Swedish top scorers and best players in the tournament, Therese Karlsson, scored a hat trick in the Final. Karlsson made a new record durring this tournament as she passed Kristine Grigorjeva (21+3) in the total amount of WU19 WFC points with 18+11.

Sweden got a flash start to the match when Cassandra Edberg´s shot bounced from a player passed Laura Loisa in the Finnish goal. The 2nd Swedish goal was forced in by Therese Karlsson, but the Finns had their chances too, and after a counter attack Annamari Lehto was able to reduce the Swedish lead.

Then Loisa, who has played excellently in the Finnish goal during the tournament, made a mistake and fumbled a ball, which Michelle Rydin could easily put into the net. Soon after Kristiina Kauppila proved her strength in front of the goal as she managed to hit a bouncing ball into the net and reduced the Swedish lead again.

Sweden took more control of the 2nd period but many of the shots missed the target and the rest was saved by Loisa. When Finland got to play on power play Matilda Nikander´s shot from long distance surprised Elin Jonsson in the Swedish goal and the score was 3-3 after two periods.

Sweden started the 3rd period with power play and it did not take long before the dangerous Karlsoon took Sweden to a one goal lead again. Karlsson continued her great tournament and her hat trick took Sweden to a 5-3 lead.

Then Finland created some really good scoring opportunities by putting ball towards the goal and one of these chances led to goal scored by Laura Manninen and the game was very interesting. With two minutes left of the match Finland played without the goalie, there were some good chances but no goal. Instead Cassandra Edberg scored her 2nd of the match into an empty net and it was clear that Sweden are the new Women´s Under 19 Champions.

Jonsson and Lehto were awarded as the best players in the Final.

Therese Karlsson gave credit to the opponent after the match.
– Finland had a really good team and the match was tight for 60 minutes. It feels great to win such a tight match.

Karlsson felt that the base for the victory was done already in the first period.
– We have had troubles in the first periods with Finland and many times we have been behind after the first 20 minutes. Today we concentrated on the beginning and that succeeded. I think our key to the victory was accurate passing play and that we were able to produce goals from the chances we created.
