New home for Floorball in Victoria
Works are now well underway at the “Gippsland Regional Sports Complex” in Sale, Victoria, which is being developed by the Wellington Shire Council through funding from Federal, State and Local Government. Stage (1) of the project which will consist of a four court indoor stadium and twelve court outdoor playing area is due for completion in October 2010.
This development provides a great opportunity to expand Floorball into regional Victoria with former Australian national player and VFA president Mark Benfield managing the facility as part of his role as Sports and Fitness Coordinator for the shire. The Wellington Shire Council recently purchased fullsized goals and has placed an order for a rink. Floorball has already been introduced to a number of schools in the region through the VFA’s development kits.
Gippsland Regional Sports Complex will become a sporting hub for Gippsland with Stages (2) and (3) including soccer, hockey, AFL and cricket playing fields.
– It is our aim to attract major events to the region such as APAC and AFO, and with having GERFLOR installed and the ability to fit two full-sized rinks into the one stadium, sets us apart from many facilities within Australia, Benfield states.
