Finland won Czech Republic in the bronze match with result 3-1. Maiju Merikanto scored three goals in the match and secured the bronze medals for the Finnish team.

Finland was the favourite of the match, since Czech Republic had never been able to win Finland. Recently the matches had anyway become more even, two of the three last matches had ended with a draw and the last one Finland won with only one goal.

Also the bronze match started evenly and no goals were seen in the first period. Finland had the ball possession, but Jana Christianova in the Czech goal played confidently and kept her net clean.

Throughout the match Finland had the ball control and concentrated on building the offences, while the Czechs got their best scoring opportunities from the counter attacks.

The opening goal of the match was seen in the end of the second period. Finland got a chance to play power play and they needed only 14 seconds to score. Defender Anu Peltokangas passed an accurate diagonal pass and Maiju Merikanto shot the ball into the net with one-timer.

Finland started the third period sharply and after a nice passing play with Anne Suomalainen, Merikanto placed the ball to empty net. In the end Hanka Konícková managed to reduce the lead, but when Merikanto completed her hat trick to the empty net, the match was decided.

Finland´s coach Jari Oksanen felt that the team came back well after yesterday´s match in Salibandyliiga´s interview.
– The team was relaxed enough and everyone had the right spirit to fight for the victory. Of course also the performance of Maiju Merikanto was important today, her goals made the needed difference.
– Our aims for the tournament were higher, but I am pleased that we were able to end the tournament with a victory. No-one can deny that the two best teams of the tournament will meet in the Final.
