Norway took the direct qualification place for the WFC 2011 by winning Poland in the important 7th place match. The dramatic match was decided after penalty shots, Norway took the victory with 6-5. In the match for 9th place Denmark won USA 3-2.

Norway started the match effectively and they scored already after two minutes . In the middle of the period Poland evened the score, but with two goals shot by Henriette Knudsen Norway had a 3-1 lead in the first intermission.

Poland evened the score in the second period, but in the beginning of the third period Norway took the lead again and as time went on, it looked liked they would manage to keep the lead to the end. The last minutes of the match were however dramatic.

First Bogna Zielenkiewicz evened the score with a long-distance shot and less than a minute later Elzbieta Piotrowska took the lead for first time for the Polish team.

Norway reacted to this by taking the goalkeeper out and was able to get the pressure to the Polish goal. A Polish defender was forced to block a shot with a high stick and a penalty shot was given to Norway. Tone Einstulen placed the ball securely to the left top corner and the score was 5-5 after the regular time.

During the extra time neither of the teams succeeded to score, so the direct qualification place was decided with penalty shots. After eight missed penalties Lisbeth Pettersen managed to score and when the last Polish player Agata Plechan shot the ball out from the upper bar, it was time for the Norwegian celebration.
