Despite the fact that three Swedish teams were absent from the tournament the participating teams had high expectations for this year´s EuroFloorball Cup, which started in Frederikshavn.
The future of the EuroFloorball Cup is a topic that is going to be thoroughly discussed in detail during the upcoming months:
– The fast development the EuroFloorball Cup and the absence of some teams causes new challenges and there is a need to evaluate the future of the EFC thoroughly. The EFC evaluation will take place during this winter with the top European club teams and national Member associations, Mr. John Liljelund, the IFF Secretary General informs.
Favourites winning their first matches
In the first Men´s match the Swiss champion, Wiler Ersigen, played against the Estonian team, Jõgeva SK Tähe. The Estonian´s could keep the match tight for 20 minutes as one of their only attacks in the first period resulted in a goal. The score was 2-1 for Wiler after the first period.
In the second period Wiler settled the match by scoring six goals in a row Matthias Hofbauer and Mattias Wallgren both scoring two goals. The final numbers were 10-1 to Wiler. Hofbauer collected 3+2 and was awarded as best player together with Raul Kivi from Jõgeva.
In the Women´s match, the reigning champion, IKSU, was leading with seven goals before Rubene´s Edite Bankava executed a nice penalty shot and scored Rubene´s first goal. IKSU was however the much stronger team and there were nine different goal scorers for IKSU, which won the match with 12-2
Rumbina Dace and Emelie Wibron were elected as best players.
