Mr. Ismo Haaponiemi has been elected the General Secretary of the 8th Men´s World Floorball Championships played in Finland in December 2010.

Haaponiemi s currently the General Secretary of the Finnish Floorball Federation and has been working in the FFF since 2006.

– There will be a busy time ahead of us. The 8th World Floorball Championships will be the biggest international sport event organised in Finland next year and the Finnish national team is defending the WFC title, Haaponiemi points out.

The organising committee is going to be formed in the beginning of September through fulltime employees and voluntary workers. Infront is responsible for finding partners and Planex for the marketing of the event.

– We wish to make the WFC an event, which gathers the whole Floorball community together. The WFC will contribute to Floorball taking its next significant development steps.

WFC to be played in Hartwall Arena and Energy Arena

The main arena will be Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, as during WFC 2002, when Finland organised the Men´s WFC the last time. The Energy Arena in Vantaa will be the second hall.

– We wish to guarantee top conditions for the players, Floorball people and the big audience. When the WFC final was played in Hartwall Arena in 2002, the Arena was sold out with nearly 14 000 spectators. The goal is as high this time and the aim is of course to fill the spectator stands in the other matches as well.

The preliminary dates for the WFC are the 4ht – 12th of December 2010. There will be 16 teams participating in the Championships and for the first time there will be Qualifications for the teams not automatically qualified.
