After a tight men´s final in the EFCQ West UHC Sparkasse Weissenfels qualified to the men´s EFC Final Round after 2-1 after extra time vs CUF Leganes.
Weissenfels took the lead 1-0 after 10.25 and also had the chance to increase the lead in a power play a few minutes later but Leganes managed easily to keep the ball out of their net during the penalty and also the remaining part of the first period.
The second period was completely even, no goals and no penalties and both teams had a great chance in the last minute of the period.
The intense of the match increased in the third period and there were a lot of tough situations. Leganes put a lot of pressure on the Weissenfels defence and after 54:43 they finally, during a power play, could get the ball in the net behind the goalie Tobias Köstler to equalize to 1-1. From this point both teams put in their last efforts to decide the match during ordinary time but although there were several chances in both directions the match went into extra time.
Only 22 seconds into the extra time Thomas Händler was able to score the decisive goal to Weissenfels, the goal was assisted by Sebastian Bernieck. This extra time goal took UHC Sparkasse Weissenfels to EFC Final Round in Frederikshavn.
Whether they will be placed in group A or B will not be settled until after the Men´s EFCQ East have been played (26-30.08.2009) since this depends on the EFC ranking. The best ranked qualifier will play in group B.
