The IFF received the recognition of the IOC in December 2008, just two days before the General Assembly. In the IFF General Assembly 2008 the vision for the upcoming decade was approved, with the final aim of reaching up to the program of the Olympic Games.

As a logical step in the process of being a recognized international federation, the IFF Executive Committee was given an official audience with the IOC President Dr. Jacques Rogge on Thursday the 20th of August at the IOC Headquarters in Lausanne.

The IFF ExCo had set the aim of informing the IOC of our activities and the development of the sport. President Rogge welcomed Floorball to the Olympic family and gave the word to the IFF President Mr. Tomas Eriksson, who gave an overall picture of the development of Floorball after receiving the recognition.

President Rogge found the path IFF has chosen to be well thought over and expressed that he finds it very good and valuable to work with young persons. He found Floorball to be an easy accessible sport, with low infrastructural needs and limited technical requirements, encouraging IFF to continue to work with youth, spreading the sport. It is important for IFF to enter as many multi-sport events as possible in order to promote the sport and increasing the visibility of Floorball worldwide. President Rogge expressed that it is important for a smaller international federation to be ambitious.

The topic of having Floorball on the program of the coming Youth Olympic Games was also touched upon and President Rogge mentioned that for the first editions , only the sports on the Olympic program can participate. But the IOC will then in the future look in to the matter.

Mr. Eriksson expresses that the meeting with President Rogge was a clear step forward for Floorball.
