Before the start of the U19 WFC 2nd semi-final yesterday the season´s best floorball profiles were elected in Finland.
Male player: Tero Tiitu, SSV (Helsinki)
Top class performances as both forward and defender and was one of the important players in the Finnish national team that one their first World Championships in 2008. Tiitu scored the decisive goal on over time. With his club team in Finland he won both the National Championships title and the Finnish Cup. Tiitu has with his positive attitude brought positive publicity for the sport.
Female player: Anne Suomalainen, SC Classic (Tampere)
Anne Suomalainen played an extremely good and solid season winning the regular season´s scoring chart and being fourth in the scoring chart in the play-offs. The technical player is confident with the ball and played in the first line in Classic, the club that one the Finnish Championship title. Suomalainen received a lot of responsibility and succeeded in important matches.
Coach: Petteri Nykky, Men´s national team
Led the national team to the first gold medal, which was long wished for. The WFC gold was a result of Nykky´ persistent and demanding coaching work. During his time as coach the national team has taken big steps towards top sport.
Floorball achievement: Men´s WFC victory
The Men´s national team accomplished with the WFC gold the long waited wish of the Finnish Floorball world by breaking Sweden´s sweet of victories since 1996. The Finnish WFC victory was also noted in the media and within the public, which led to the WFC gold being nominated as the most exciting moment of the year 2008.
Pekka´s trophy: John Liljelund
The General Secretary of the International Floorball Federation has worked towards making Floorball known in the International Sports world. As the most important milestone the International Olympic Committee recognised Floorball as a provisional IOC member and the future aim is now to get Floorball to the Olympic program.
