On Friday evening, April 24, the Swiss Sport Aid Foundation awarded its prizes for the best young athletes and young trainers of 2008. The category Youth Sports Team of the Year 2008 was won by the Under 19 Floorball World Champions.
Four representatives of the successful team – Helen Bircher, Jasmin Käser, Flurina Marti and Alexandra Frick, and the world championship training duo Bernhard Nussbaum/Laura Tomatis – were pleased to accept a cheque in recognition of the team’s achievement. The cheque was presented by Mark Wolf, the former national goalkeeper, who today is responsible for swiss unihockey’s J+S (Youth and Sport) section.
The jury consisting of sports journalists from major Swiss newspapers chose their favourite sportsmen and women from five male and five female athletes and five teams. In addition to the national floorball team the other candidates proposed by Swiss Olympic for the Youth Sports Team of the Year 2008 award were the junior twin bobsleigh teams consisting of Marina Gilardoni/Fabienne Meyer and Gregor Baumann/Jürg Egger, the national junior tug-of-war team and the madison cycling team with Silvan Dillier/Claudio Imhof
Thanks to this award swiss unihockey receives the sum of 30,000 francs for the promotion of juvenile sport. The Sport Aid Foundation Youth Prize is the most prestigious award in the realm of sport for the young in Switzerland.
