During the 10th IFF General Assembly on December Sierra Leone was accepted to be the first African member association of IFF.
Meanwhile there are other projects ongoing in order to spread Floorball also in other countries in Africa. The latest and one of the best examples of this is Djibouti in the East coast of Africa, where new floorball training center has been established.
Also the process of forming a national federation has started, with the aim of getting the membership of IFF in Djibouti.
The new floorball project, that is supported by IFF, started regular floorball trainings in Balbala youth center. The project “Unihockey PK12” started on November and now there are three teams training weekly in Balbala. The trainings that include warm-up, exercises and playing are performed by two local leaders. The next floorball tournament in Djibouti is planned to be played in April 2009 and then also the teams from Balbala will take part as well the teams from Arhiba.
Prior to this, floorball has been played in Djibouti in the Arhiba area. In the local youth and culture center there are 12 teams of “Minim” (12-15 years old players) and 10 teams of “Cadés” (young adults, 16 years or more) training floorball once a week. These teams also played the “End of the year” floorball tournament on 13th – 18th of December 2008.
