Since two years back, Floorball has been played in Kurdistan, with the support of the regional government. The aim has been to introduce the sport for both men and women as well as boys and girls.

The regional government has supported the project and in July 2008, a four day Floorball seminar was organised in Shaklawa with the assistance of Floorball enthusiast from Sweden. There were 40 participants in the seminar from four different clubs in different cities: Erbil, Shaklawa, Akre and Soran. The seminar included both theoretical and practical Floorball lessons and ended with exhibition matches. The exhibition matches gathered a lot of interested spectators and also delegates from the sports ministry and the media were present.

The seminar started with an open house day, where the visitors could try Floorball themselves. The next two days both theoretical lessons and practical floorball training sessions were organised for a group of students from the sports academy in Erbil.
