The Nominations Committee and the Central Board are to propose Edwin Wiedmer as new President of the Swiss Floorball Association. The post has been vacant since the resignation of Gerhard Zingg at the Delegates Meeting held last June.
At the Federation Council meeting early this December, the swiss unihockey Central Board hinted that an end of the six-month presidential vacancy was in sight. And now the four-member Nominations Committee and the Central Board have proposed Edwin Wiedmer as the Association´s new president. For this reason, an extraordinary meeting of the Federation Council with representatives from the most important committees and sections has been scheduled — this in the course of the Men´s International tournament in Zurich on Saturday 2 February 2008.
Edwin Wiedmer (57) is a business data specialist and has managed the computer centre of a leading IT service provider in the Bern area for twelve years. As a member of the general management, he is in charge of approx. 120 employees there. Born in Thun but now resident in Zuchwil, Mr Wiedmer is married and has two school-age children.
“As the head of a young and dynamic federation, I would like to help mould the sporting, structural and strategies developments of the future,” says Mr Wiedmer explaining the motives for his candidature. In his view, swiss unihockey is a major, widely recognised Swiss association with clear and intelligible structures built on a sound financial basis. He is convinced that swiss unihockey, “thanks to an attractive range of services, will continue to grow and also decisively shape the development of sport in Switzerland”.
As an active member of the football section of the Swiss Corporate Sports Association, he was appointed – at a relatively early age – Vice President of the Solothurn Regional Association, of which he was a member for some years. Now he is aiming to take on the challenge in a more general sporting environment. Mr Wiedmer is currently President of the Sponsors Association of the SV Wiler-Ersigen, the Swiss Mobiliar League club. He is a great sports enthusiast and still playing football in a veterans team, an activity he rounds off by playing floorball in an amateur team and a few games of tennis.
