The first real qualifications for a World Floorball Championship were played last weekend simultaneously in Wolsztyn, Poland and in Kapfenberg, Austria. The qualifications were played in two groups of three teams, where the winners and the best second team made it through to the WFC 2007 B-Division.
The Polish team, which consisted of very young players, with 7 players from the U19 WFC in Germany played a very good tournament. The polish team won both their matches and with four points they secured their place in the WFC B-Division group D. Also the Italian team collected four points by winning over both Slovenia and Austria. The match against Austria was an exciting one when Austria led with 2-1 when going into the third period. The Italians however came back in the last period and took the win with 3-2 and so Italy was the second team directly qualified to the WFC 2007. When Italy won, it meant that Slovakia was the best second with two points. Both Italy and Slovakia will play in group C.
The qualifications where of a high class and well organised in both countries. This clearly proves that the format is working very well, when IFF is moving into the new system including qualifications for the WFC´s. The match between Poland and Estonia gathered the biggest amount of spectators (426) in the arena in Wolsztyn.
