The Swedish team won the thrilling Final versus Finland with a sudden death goal scored by Magnus Svensson. This was the 6th time Sweden won the Championship title.

The Final was exciting and tense right from the start. Mika Kohonen hit the post during the first minutes of the match and right afterwards Sweden had a very good scoring opportunity. Tero Tiitu scored the first goal of the match and Finland increased their lead to 3-0 with a penalty shot scored by Mika Kohonen and a second goal by Tiitu. But the comfortable situation did not last long for Finland and when Markus Bollström got a two minutes penalty Magnus Svensson scored a power play goal for Sweden.

In the second period it was Sweden’s turn to score. First Conny Vesterlund managed to get the ball into the net after it had first touched the Finnish goalkeeper and then the post and in 11:20 Peter Fischerström shot a “canon ball” from long distance, which the Finnish goalie was unable to catch. The match was then tied to 3-3. When five minutes were left of the second period Tiitu found Mika Kohonen who was totally free in front of the Swedish goal and Finland then again got a one goal lead 4-3.

In the third period Sweden made a marking mistake and Jaakko Hintikka could score a 5-3 goal for Finland. Then Sweden scored three times in a row and got into the lead for the first time in the match after the second penalty shot of the day, scored by Daniel Calebsson. Only one minute after this Lasse Vänttinen from Finland scored a goal straight from Peik Salminen’s pass. After three periods the situation was then 6-6.

The tough match got even tougher during the extra time and when Peik Salminen got a two minutes penalty in 6:43 it gave Sweden a golden opportunity that they did not miss. In 7:54 Magnus Svensson scored the sudden death goal. The golden goal was assisted by Daniel Calebsson.

The dream Final was played in front of 12.535 spectators in Globe Arena.
